My Story

About Maile (Em)

Aka'aka Loko i Ka Ike a Ke Aloha - The Secrets Within Me Are Seen Through A L O H A.

Most people know me as Em, but some may remember me as Miss Maile, Miss Em, or Teacher Em.

I was born and raised in Boise, Idaho then moved to Oregon in 2018. My mother and Tutu were both born on the island of Honolulu, Hawaii. They teach me about the indigenous culture, traditions, values and Aloha. Though I was born on the "mainland", I do my best to keep myself educated and continually informed about the islands of Hawaii.

I am a passionate and devoted nanny with over a decade of childcare experience.

My career began at a very young age babysitting for my neighbors, and then family and friends. When I was 20 I took over my sister's one-year old classroom and became a certified teacher. In between childcare centers, I also gained experience in the office, adult, advocacy, retail and service industries.

My nanny services began in 2015, and whether I have worked freelance or with an agency, have been successful. Although I have worked with children as old as ten years and as young as two months, I specialize in infant and toddler through preschool ages. I have worked with young children and their speech and physical therapists, children on the spectrum, and children who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.

When I am not raising precious humans, I enjoy writing poetry, cooking, crafternoons, theater, dance, hiking and video games with my fiancé, and catching up on One Piece. I  thrive in spaces that practice inclusivity and capability to evolve with the times.

Commitment

COVID-19 and Illnesses

I recognize the unfortunate continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic and promise to continue necessary testing, boosting vaccination and mask-wearing. My CPR, first aid and AED will continue to remain valid. I will give as much notice when I am too contagious to work.

Time Management

Though I demonstrate the practice of resisting urgency culture, I understand the time-sensitivity of work and deadlines. I will be prompt with my shifts and communicative about my route and if any obstacles are keeping me from arriving on time.
